Eco-Model Cities
Eco-Model City (EMC)
The government selected thirteen cities* from across the country as showcase cities in FY2008, which address advanced approaches towards ambitious goals on reduction of greenhouse gases.
Encouraging activities of local communities is one of policies which aimed to transform the entire country into a low-carbon society.
*Shimokawa, Obihiro, Chiyoda, Yokohama, Iida, Toyota, Toyama, Kyoto, Sakai, Yusuhara, Kitakyushu, Minamata, Miyakojima
Promotion Council of Law Carbon Cities
The purpose is to spread the excellent cases of efforts by EMCs and send relevant infomation throughout the country and worldwide.
The Council was established in December 2008. Members are a total of 147 organizations*. . . interested municipalities, prefectures, and governmental ministries and organizations.
